How to Create a Kakao Talk ID 

KakaoTalk is the most popular free call and messaging app in Korea. You can hardly find any Korean that doesn't use KakaoTalk. Korean people use KakaoTalk as a daily tool to keep in touch with their friends, colleagues, and family members so every expat in Korea should also know how to use this app. First, you need to know how to create a Kakao ID.  Please read this article to find more detailed information about creating a KakaoTalk account.

Step 1

You can download the KakaoTalk app by these links: ioS | Android 

Please note that you cannot create a new account using the computer so you have to have KakaoTalk installed on your phone. 

Step 2

Then, when you open the KakaoTalk app after the download is done, on the opening interface, choose "Sign up". KakaoTalk will ask you whether you want to receive notifications or not. You should tick all the required terms and press "Agree and continue". 

Step 3

Next, you have to enter your phone number to register for a KakaoTalk account. You can use both foreign and Korean phone numbers. However, please note that when you apply by a foreign phone number, it will take 3-5 days for the security check before you can use all the functions of this app. After entering your phone number, press "OK" and the system will send a 4-digit verification code to your phone. 

Step 4

When your phone number is verified, you will have to create your own password. You should include both lower-case and capital letters, numbers, and special symbols in your password. By doing this your account security and protection of your personal information will be enhanced. 

Step 5 

After finishing all the above steps, enter your personal information including nickname, D.O.B, and gender. After choosing your avatar, you have just created your KakaoTalk account. 

Step 6

The last step is creating your Kakao ID. Click on your profile and choose "Edit profile". Then you can choose "Create Kakao ID" by entering a combination of 4-15 alphabetic letters and numbers. Please remember that your ID should be unique or else the app will not accept it.
