Two Free Apps to Find Part-time Jobs as International Students in Korea

The demand for part-time jobs is higher as the number of foreign students is increasing. However, it is hard for new students to find a part-time job since they don't really know about the part-time job system in Korea. In this article, you will be introduced to the two most popular apps that students use to find part-time jobs in Korea.

And if you’re looking to become a freelance writer for us, check out this site

Alba cheonguk - 알바천국 and Albamon - 알바몬

These two apps are very popular in Korea when it comes to finding a part-time job (alba). With these two part-time job apps, you need to be quite fluent in Korean. Just need a smartphone and sit at home looking for jobs posted on the apps. See what job is right for you, text, or call then wait for the interview time. Create your own resume and update your information with your outstanding skills. The application will lead employers to find the candidate's profile quickly. The advantage of these two apps is that there is a large network of employers and candidates can create their own CVs to stand out to attract recruiters.

1. Download the app

Both Alba Cheonguk and Albamon are available on the App Store and the Google Play Store. You can download the apps by clicking in these links:

Alba Cheonguk: iOS Android

Website: www.alba.co.kr

Albamon: iOS Android

Website: www.albamon.com

Both of these apps are in Korean, so if your Korean is not that great, you may want to use a translation app like Papago or Google Translate.

2. Sign up or create an account

You can sign up after you have downloaded the apps. Or you can sign in by your KakaoTalk, Facebook, or Naver account.

You will be asked to agree with the required boxes (필수), create an ID and a password. Also, you need to enter your personal information like full name, gender, D.O.B, and email. After entering your mobile phone number, a serial code will be sent to your phone, type that code and your signing up is complete.

3. Create your resume

Now that you already have your account, you should create your own resume to attract the employers. You just need to complete your resume based on the form that the two apps provided. In case you don't really know what to write, don't worry, there are suggested sentences from the apps in each section of the resume.

You will be asked to choose the preferred job locations, working time, and job types.

You can choose to enter information about your education, experience, and your certificates, such as TOPIK/IELTS or MOS certificate.

At the end of the resume, you can write more about your experience and personality to impress the employer.

4. Enter the location where you want to find a job

Once you have created the resume, you can start to find a suitable job in the 지역별 (choosing location) section and through filters such as a full-time job or part-time job, job type, working time.

After clicking the search symbol, you can click on each job to see the detailed information.

You should check the exact location, monthly salary or hourly wage, working time, job requirements, genders, and specific job descriptions.

5. Send messages or call the manager

When you have found your preferred jobs, you can apply by your resume, sending an email, or calling the manager.

6. Interview

If your resume is accepted, there will be a notification from the app about the interview location. All you need to do is prepare a neat outfit and the answers to frequently asked questions:

1. What's your name?

2. How old are you?

3. Where are you from?

4. Can you speak and understand Korean?

5. Have you ever tried working part-time?

6. What is your previous work experience?

7. How long can you work?

8. What time can you work?

9. Where is your home?

10. Have you ever worked as a waiter/dishwasher / or a full-time position (depending on where you want to work)?

11. Is the monthly salary and day-offs okay for you?

12. Do you have an ARC or medical certificate?

If you want to apply for jobs such as dishwasher or kitchen helper, you don't need to be fluent in Korean so don't worry. As long as you can say some simple expressions, you can work with the managers without difficulty.

7. Go to work

The employer will tell you right after the interview if you are accepted. If not, they often tell you to go home and wait for their calls (often, they will never call back). Once you are accepted, you should prepare the essential documents and receive permission to work part-time from your university and the Immigration Office.

Some tips when applying for a job

  • Dress neatly and behave politely.

  • Prepare essential documents: student ID card, Alien Registration card, etc.

  • Show the manager your positive attitude and eagerness to learn new things. In case you don't understand the questions, just ask them to say it slowly again. Or else, you will appear to know nothing.

  • Before starting the job, you must negotiate clearly with your employer about your salary, working time, days off, and bonuses. (Note that the current minimum wage in Korea is 8,590 won per hour).

  • Get to work on time. You should arrive 10-15 minutes before you officially start work. If you frequently get to the workplace late, you may be fired because Koreans highly value punctuality.
